There are three major Image films coming out in the next couple years, Birthright, Invincible and Cowboy Ninja Viking. All three have great stories and the potential to become a blockbuster. Which one are you most excited about?
Birthright
Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan, the creators of Birthright, would have been dreaming in 2014 to think that they would have a movie deal for Birthright. And yet here they are. Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, the writers who created things like the three Despicable Me movies and the Secret Life of Pets are teaming up again to write the Birthright movie.
For those of you unfamiliar with Birthright it about a family struggling with the loss of a son. Actually, Mikey Rhodes is not lost but in a different world, Terrenos. In his grown-up form, Mikey Rhodes looks like Jason Momoa. Please take this as a casting suggestion Universal Pictures. One of the creators, Joshua Williamson said, “Birthright is a giant fantasy epic, but at its core, it’s a story about family…”
Invincible
The infamous Robert Kirkman from Walking Dead fame created Invincible. It’s a superhero tale that isn’t afraid to get dirty and personal and true to Kirkman form, kill people you love. Mark Grayson, Invincible, has girl troubles, school issues and fights alien invasions on the side. As Kirkman weaves his tale, Grayson is faced with betrayals, death, epic battles, rape, reunions and a million other things. There is a law in Invincible comics: For every superhero action, there is a real and sometimes painful reaction. If Mark gets punched into a building, several hundred civilians will be maimed or die. Having read Invincible for many years (started on issue 12), I really hope this is the blockbuster. The Invincible comic ended in February with issue #144 aptly named, “The End of All Things”.
The movie about Invincible is in the hands of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The duo plan to write and direct the movie. According to an interview at San Diego Comic-Con with Robert Kirkman, they understand “for Invincible to succeed it has to be fundamentally different than anything you’ve ever seen in the superhero space.” If you want more information here is an 8-minute video with Kirkman talking about Invincible, the comic and the movie.
Cowboy Ninja Viking
Back in 2009 Lieberman and Rossmo created Cowboy Ninja Viking the launch wasn’t exactly greeted with a fanfare. It was released in October 2009 at a time when everyone was buying 12 versions of the Blackest Night, Batman and Robin, Dark Avengers and New Avengers. Cowboy Ninja Viking didn’t rank in the top 200 books sold that month!
Now Cowboy Ninja Viking is crushing it with the star power of Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, Jurassic World, The Avengers: Infinity War) and director Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead). These two names with their resumes are enough to get anyone excited about the potential for this summer 2019 movie.
