Before I go off on this goofy tangent, let me say that I enjoy the artwork of Stjepan Sejic. He is a phenomenal talent who deserves recognition for some great artwork. With the niceties out of the way, let’s offend someone.
Here at Comics Price Guide, we try to keep up with all the hot variant cover artists since we are daily adding their books into the database. I kept seeing Stjepan Sejic’s name associated with interesting covers and began looking into them. In my research for a new post entitled Top 10 Stjepan Sejic covers (not published yet) I started noticing a trend, teeth, lots and lots of TEETH. Several of his covers featured massive or pointed teeth. Then I realized that Sejic is obsessed with teeth. Dentists from the east to the west are scared of this dude. Forget the horrors of Halloween candy and sugar-filled soft drink, Sejic is a dentist’s true nightmare.
First Born Aftermath #1A – May 2008 – This is early on in his career of making covers so the teeth aren’t as big as they will become later.
Darkness/Pitt #1A – August 2009 – Hmm, looks like at least 7 sets of teeth now but maybe that’s just one cover.
Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files: War Cry #2 – July 2014 – Teeth and more teeth
Rise of the Magi #2 – July 2014 – Gritting his big ugly teeth and taking a selfie of his crooked teeth.
Death Vigil #5 – November 2014 – Yes, those are large jagged teeth in the background and the person in the front is asking for MORE teeth.
IXth Generation #2 – February 2015 – Teeth and gums that extend out like an Alien movie.
IXth Generation #4 – July 2015 – New and improved with more teeth per square inch! Buy yours today!
IX Generation #6 – October 2015 – A wonderful cave of teeth, let’s go exploring.
Wayward #22A – July 2017 – Long dagger-like teeth, I wonder if we will see more teeth like that on a different cover?
Teen Titans #12 – November 2017 – The first appearance of the Batman who laughs could not have been done by a better tooth artist than Sejic. Even though the Batman who laughs is sitting in the background those glorious teeth and gums shine like a beacon of despair.
Suicide Squad #26 – November 2017 – Released the same month as the Teen Titans issue, this cover includes the Batman who laughs and two other fun teethed monsters. One of the beasts has large teeth on his battle gear, some doubters might call them horns. Suicide Squad #27 has a Killer Croc with a great tooth-filled look but not enough to make this list.
Green Lanterns #47 – July 2018 – How about some green teeth? Maybe you should try brushing more often.
Aquaman #37 – August 2018 – You might notice the helmet or the out of focus bubbles or the glaring eye but this cover is really about the shiny teeth.
Hawkman #2A (vol. 5) – Septembers 2018 – Early on dragons were about the fire but now it’s all about the teeth.
Hawkman 3A (vol. 5) – October 2018 – We have reached the pinnacle of toothy goodness with this gigantic pair of teeth and gums and saliva. You win, Sejic. We bow before your teeth of wonder.
This post was written for fun and entertainment and to tease a great artist. Hopefully, Stjepan Sejic can take a joke and maybe smile. (showing his teeth) Since I am a fan, here is a post about Sejic’s top comic book covers.
